- 4 oz. butter
- 7 1/2 oz.
plain flour
- 1/2
tsp. baking powder
- water
- Fruit Mixture

Ib. plain flour 8 oz. sugar
- 2 Ib. large seeded raisins
- 2 Ib. currants
- 4 0z. orange peel
- 4 oz. chopped
almonds
- 1/2
oz. ginger
- 1/2
oz. cinnamon ^
- 1/2 oz. allspice
- 1/2
tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- I tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2
pt. milk, or enough
to moisten mixture
Mix all ingredients together thoroughly
with your hands and put mixture into a lined tin. Flatten the top, and wet the
edges all around with milk. Put lid on top, prick with a fork, and brush with
egg. Bake slowly for 3 hours at 300°.
Note:
This cake improves with keeping.
